Recently Peter and Julie have stepped down from running Tuapeka Lodge, and their sons, Philip (Peter's son) and Ben (Julie's son) have taken over               most of the horses.

Tuapeka Lodge is a family stud run by Peter and Dan Cummings and sister Julie Davie. It was established in the 1960's by our mother Joan, and carried on after her death by our father Cliff.  Each of us have our own areas of responsibility:

    • Dan's job is the pedigree work and matings for the mares. Breaking in and pre-training the fillies, then training some of them or supervising their race careers.
    • Julie provides overall management for the stud. Until recently she has prepared the yearlings for the sales at her and husband Lew's property in Mosgiel. She sees that the mares get to the right stallion at the right time, and stakes the yearlings for the races to which they are eligible.
    • Peter looks after the mares, foals, yearlings and young racing stock at Tuapeka Lodge in Lawrence.
    • We are all within striking distance of Coronet Peak and try to get a couple of days there each year with other brothers and sisters to 'lighten up' the winter!
